CARSON, CA, UNITED STATES, September 16, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — The Hustle Grant, a micro-grant program supporting women-owned businesses across the United States, has awarded Dr. Vanessa Gavin-Headen, founder of Valmasi, its $1,000 September 2026 grant. Gavin-Headen, a retired physician of 26 years, will put the funds toward the Women’s Wellness x Valmasi Fit Experience, a free community event bringing together approximately 150 women for guided scrub fittings and wellness programming on Saturday, September 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Carson Event Center, 801 Carson Street, Carson, California. The grant will cover venue costs and table and chair rentals.
The event will feature healthcare professionals speaking on stress, nutrition, exercise, and perimenopause, followed by small-group breakout discussions alongside the fittings.
“Vanessa was an easy choice for us. Her multifaceted event is making a real impact in the medical apparel and wellness space, and we love that Valmasi is letting a former physician live out her fashion designer dreams,” said Devin, The Hustle Grant Coordinator.
Gavin-Headen practiced family medicine for 26 years before founding Valmasi, a scrub line designed for curvy women and manufactured in Los Angeles. As a physician, she saw firsthand how ill-fitting scrubs — cut without room for fuller hips, thighs, or busts — undercut the confidence of the women wearing them, a problem she had experienced herself. That gap became the foundation for Valmasi.
“I was so excited when I found out I’d been selected. This is the first grant I’ve ever received after applying to many, and I’m so grateful The Hustle Grant chose me. The funding helps cover the cost of the room for my Women’s Wellness x Valmasi Fit Experience, so I can bring in portable changing rooms and have physicians and wellness professionals leading small-group discussions throughout the event. It lowers the overhead so this can be a true marketing and community event rather than something I need to profit from, and it lets me stay true to my training as a physician. I still love educating people on how to stay healthy,” Gavin-Headen said.
Looking ahead, Gavin-Headen plans to develop a line of scrubs for students and physician groups purchasing in bulk for their staff, building a business-to-business revenue stream alongside her direct-to-consumer line.
