Launched in 2020 as part of LexScholars by AccessLex®, LexPreLaw provides participants with LSAT preparation, admission counseling, financial assistance, and other individualized support.

LexPreLaw is distinctive because it targets law school applicants who are least likely to gain admission due to unfavorable LSAT scores and unfamiliarity with the application process.

A new five-year research report highlights LexPreLaw’s impact:

  • 1,002 participants served.
  • 92% of participants are members of underrepresented racial or ethnic groups. In addition, 80% came from lower socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • 157 participants received at least one law school admission offer, with 109 receiving at least one scholarship offer.
  • 117 participants enrolled in law school, with 53 having graduated so far.

The report also identifies practices associated with increased chances of admission:

  • Participants who began an LSAT prep course before August 1 were 48% more likely to gain admission.
  • Participants who took the LSAT before November 1 were 24% more likely to gain admission.
  • Participants who applied to law school before December 1 were 13% more likely to gain admission than those who applied December 1-February 1, and 52% more likely than those who applied after February 1.
  • Participants who applied to five or more schools were more than twice as likely to receive at least one offer.

“LexPreLaw was created to help expand access to resources, guidance, and support that increase one’s chances of getting into law school,” said Aaron N. Taylor, Executive Director of the AccessLex Center for Legal Education Excellence®. “By targeting aspiring students who are least likely to gain admission, LexPreLaw is helping raise trajectories in ways that benefit participants and society. We are looking forward to even greater impacts during the next five years and beyond.”
